If you are concentrating on a dilemma, issue or task, it stays in the conscious part of you brain.
Although, there are some problems that you are unable to solve until the concept gets the attention of your unconscious mind.
How is it possible your unconscious mind take a look at your current situation? You have to take a break.
Mentally demanding jobs requires taking rest period to stay efficient. Although we have a cultural viewpoint that encourages staff to see taking a break as a weakness. This is not the case .
Taking a small period of time away from your main task requires a discipline.
It takes discipline to know when to start and when to finish once your break has served its purpose.
All breaks are not equal.
To benefit from a break You needs to let your mind and body to something very different for a short period of time. If you sit and work at a computer all day, one of the worst things you can do is to try to use PC Games Face book or a news website as a break. It might be a bit of a mental shift, but it isn’t actually doing something different.
Here are some attributes of a good break for people who sit at a computer:
It should require you to focus on things at a different distance than what you do at your desk.
Things that raise your heart rate are helpful.
It should use some type of skill like: balance, timing, motor skills, etc
It should be something you can do in 5 to 10 minutes.
Activities that meet those criteria are going to help give your conscious brain the time off it needs for your unconscious brain to do work. Here are some activities that work well:
Juggle
Learning to juggle is easy and it is an ideal exercise to take a break. It requires fine muscle control, timing It counter acts the muscles used when typing or looking on a computer or phone as when your juggling your forced to look up bend down and stretch if you drop and your hands are the opposite as they are when typing. Most important it is fun.
Poi
Uses simple arm movements that will stretch your back shoulders hips wrist knees and ankles
the moves are very simple and easy to learn this will be a very effective way to focus
eye tracking while using the poi will be helpful to change the gaze of your vision as opposite to that of the computer
it is very rhythmic and relaxing
Contact juggling
Can be done while sitting down a quite quick way to exercise your wrist ands and change your vision while waiting for programs to load Its ideal in a small space such as a cubical
Staff
Learning figure 8s really exercises your wrist Horizontal twirls strengthen your arms they're are hundreds of other rolls and patterns to learn that will help move muscles and change your focus
SERIOUSLY
It is hard to not be happy while juggling.
I will be able to supply you with juggling balls that have your company logo on them
I will teach your staff in short increments how to juggle it will probably take 3 session of practice to get it but once your muscle memory has clocked it you will never forget like riding a bike
this will allow your staff to use this skill when taking short breaks 2-5 min. to tap in to their unconscious part of their mind and in turn build confidence relieve stress and most importantly grasp those concepts that are intregial to problem solving
